Arista Networks, Inc. (ANET)
Equipamiento de red para centros de datos, infraestructura de inteligencia artificial, campus y ruteo
Arista is the benchmark supplier of high-speed Ethernet switching for data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure, with a unique operating system that sustains an exceptional return on capital; the problem is not the business but the price: at 62× the market is already paying several years of growth in advance and the estimated return is -2% annually.

The essentials
- Return on capital of 25% on capital employed, in the exceptional band, with outsourced manufacturing and capex at 1.4% of sales.
- No financial debt and US$13,343 million in cash and marketable securities as of June 30, 2026; working capital is partly funded by deferred revenue of US$6,865.9 million.
- Extreme concentration: two customers accounted for 26% and 16% of 2025 revenue (42% combined), versus 35% in 2024.
- The base path starts from the guidance in the August 4, 2026 8-K (revenue of approximately US$3,300 million and non-GAAP operating margin of 48-49% for the third quarter) and decelerates from 31.0% to 10.5% annually.
- At 62× against an exit multiple of 19x, the estimated return is -2% annually: the quality of the business is not in question, the price is.
Intrinsic value — two valuation methods
By both methods, the value today (DCF $150 · Multiples $135) is below the market price ($190).
Pillars of the analysis
The verdict — today vs 5 years
Today — expensive, no margin of safety: at $190 trades ~40.8% above its value discounted to today (~$135); the expected return does not even reach the risk-free rate (4.5%).
At 5 years — Sobrevalorado: the expected total return is negative — the price already discounts a demanding scenario that, if not met, results in a loss.
The bridge: the return at 5 years falls below the risk-free rate (4.5%) — which is why there is not even a discount to today's value. To require a 15% annual return, it would need to be bought at ~$84.
Thesis
The business
Arista is a high-quality business with unusual economics: outsourced manufacturing, capex at 1.4% of sales, no financial debt, US$13,343 million in cash and marketable securities, and working capital partly funded by customers, with deferred revenue that grew US$1,493.5 million in the first half of 2026 alone. Return on capital is 24.9%, comfortably above the 10% bar.
The counterpart is dependence: 42% of revenue in two customers, a predominant silicon supplier, and demand tied to the artificial intelligence infrastructure investment cycle, whose long-term trajectory the company itself declares unknown.
The valuation
It is valued by EV/NOPAT, the correct metric for a networking equipment maker: it charges for capex, expenses stock-based compensation by starting from GAAP operating income, and avoids operating cash flow, which here is inflated by customer funding.
The base path starts from the guidance in the August 4, 2026 press release —revenue of approximately US$3,300 million for the third quarter, with a non-GAAP operating margin of 48-49%— and decelerates from 31.0% to 10.5% annually by year 5, with the operating margin easing from 43.1% to 42.0%. The exit multiple is 19x NOPAT, in the upper part of the 15-21x band for the networking equipment archetype, justified by the return on capital and by terminal growth. That yields a value of $168 per share in five years against a price of $190, that is, -2% annually.
The margin of safety
No margin of safety: the price already discounts a demanding scenario. The stock trades today at 62×, against an exit multiple of 19x that is already in the upper tier of the archetype's band. Even assuming revenue multiplies by 2.4 in five years and the operating margin holds above 42%, multiple compression eats the growth.
The price that would leave a 15% annual return is -127%. Put differently: justifying the current quote would require sustaining today's multiple five years from now, when the business is already growing in the high single digits, or assuming growth far above the base path. The verdict is Overvalued.
What to watch
The central disconfirmer is the behavior of the two customers that contribute 42% of revenue. A change in architecture, an internalization of design, or a deployment pause at either of them alters the revenue level, not just its growth rate, and the company warns they can cancel or modify orders with little or no notice.
The second indicator is gross margin, which already eased from 65.2% to 62.9% year over year in the second quarter of 2026 on tariffs and mix. The third is the evolution of in-rack interconnect: if proprietary alternatives consolidate that segment, the addressable Ethernet market in artificial intelligence narrows sooner than the base path assumes.
